mama tropic

Baby girl needs a vacation. It's already the end of August and I feel like I haven't done any REAL traveling in months... can't decide if it's the fault of my agoraphic tendencies or simply no opportunity. Either way, this tropical print two-piece from AX Paris puts me in the zone. You know what zone I'm talking about. Imagined pina coladas and a hammock. This outfit deserves a debut on an actual Polynesian island, not my local tiki bar.

little mistress

Have you ever seen a woman more prepared for an uppity wine and dine? Probably, but this is MY blog and MY hypothetical question! I've got my little black dress, strappy sandals, and a thirst for Chardonnay. But you know me. Travel size Sutter Homes will have to do until a gentleman steps up and sweeps me away... preferably in a limo, and preferably with iced bottles already on deck. Open container law? Doesn't apply to me in THIS outfit.'Driver roll up the partition please' is a lifestyle expectation, not a song lyric.

Many thanks to Little Mistress for hooking me up with this gorgeous dress for an evening to remember. Eventually. ;)

zip it

Moseying about a room all day, too handicapped by anxiety to explore the world, is creatively stifling for obvious reasons. There's a permeating sense of doom, a limited reservoir of entertainment options, and the decor gets boring to look at after approximately the 20th week in isolation. To cope with this malaise, I fantasize about alternate lives, alternate careers. This outfit reflects my most lusted ambition: the art curator. She's everything I'm not: social, talkative, executive, limitless. She's admired for her taste and sophistication. She can make magic happen in a stark white room, she knows the who's-who, she impresses the big wigs with big words and flutes of expensive champagne. I like to imagine that this is an outfit she'd wear to one of her curated openings.

This gorgeous pencil skirt is c/o Bardot, the brand that also designed my beloved snow leopard dress. And the shades, fitting for only a woman with a prestigious degree (or those who like to impersonate them), are c/o Zero UV, the wonderful line that has been supplying most of my sunnies these past several months! J'adore my collaborators.

makeup review: one direction's midnight memories collection

I'm super excited to publish my first ever makeup review! I'm a little camera shy when it comes to recording, so hopefully these progress shots will suffice to illustrate how I achieved #thelook. The makeup kit I'm using is a limited edition set of products from One Direction's new makeup line called "The Looks Collection." Each makeup kit comes in a keepsake tin named after one of three albums: Up All Night, Take Me Home, and Midnight Memories. My palette features the boldest shades of the bunch -- dark and holographic shadows, deep rouge lipstick, fluorescent magenta gloss, and glittering gray nail polish. Together, they create a cosmetic ensemble fit for the craziest concert, wildest after party, or (if you're lucky) tour bus turn-up.

Check out the artistic direction I chose for my face!

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

First, I applied a base layer of foundation and filled in my brows to prep my 'facial canvas.'

Next, I whipped out the mascara and loaded it on - top and bottom. Didn't expect it to do exactly what I wanted! Love a sweet surprise.

Then, the hard part. Lining my eye with a creamy kohl pencil.

I chose a semi-pointed smoky blend over a traditional cat-eye. Specific shapes are easier to accomplish with liquid eyeliner, and the pencil works best when you gently rub it in.

But now the FUN part - painting those lids with shimmering shades of eyeshadow.

I went aaaaall the way and used every color but the glittering peach... we'll save that hue for another day.

Glam time with "Best Song Ever"- the perfect shade of ruby red and a creamy quality texture.

Finally ready to rock n' roll... Zayn where you at when I'm lookin' this good????

And I gotta say it... THAT'S what makes me beautiful. Midnight Memories.

The Looks Collection is available all over America starting August 25th (today!) -- you can pick yours up at Macy's, Dillards, Lord & Taylor, Beauty Brands or Stage Stores. And if you choose another palette, like the electrifying "Up All Night" or girl-next-door-chic "Take Me Home," send me a pic. I'm curious to see what you do with your art!

wanna fanta #tbt

Everybody loves a label -- be it a designer logo or corporate graphic. Stylishly aligning yourself with the products you consume is self-expression. What I buy, what I enjoy, what I choose to taste and accessorize is who I am. Because my personality made that choice. Agency. Identity. Wanna Fanta.

keithin' it real

I've always associated Keith Haring with childhood. As a toddler in the 90s, I grew up in Miami Beach when shit was really poppin' off -- entrepreneurs and artists were making their big break in a city exploding with economic growth and opportunity. My family, too, experienced that craze of success. Our neighbors had two daughters the same ages as me and my sister. So we played together everyday. Although I was young, I somehow had the capacity to deeply appreciate the incredible art on the walls of their home. Their Keith Haring prints especially stood out to me. Eventually I learned that they were originals from Keith himself, a friend and colleague of my playmates' dad! Keith provided the artwork for the nonprofit organization our neighbor founded in 1989 - and you may have heard of it: Best Buddies. Their friendship, collaboration, and activism has inspired me for a lifetime. The power of integrating art and philanthropy is incredible, and I encourage all of my readers to get to know Best Buddies -- and if you have the time, volunteer.

Best Buddies is a movement committed to establishing friendships and employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Socialization is a necessary element of every human life, and volunteering your friendship to someone who might not have the access or ability to foster relationships is a beautiful gift. I encourage anyone reading this to familiarize themselves with Best Buddies' state programs and integration opportunities. Be a friend. http://www.bestbuddies.org/ :)

snow leopard

I haven't been to the club since the last time I went to the club. Which was... 6 months ago? When you live in Vegas, avoiding clubs and lounges is a major feat. They seduce you. They enrapture you like Odysseyian sirens, except instead of singing gorgeous melodies they DJ infectious EDM and trap beats. It's as hard to resist as taking your heels off en route to valet after several hours of traipsing through a casino with a giant guitar shaped margarita container slung over your shoulder. But somehow, I manage. I sate my temptation by simply wearing an outfit I could wear to the club... but won't... because I am a responsible adult whose partying era ended before I was even legal to drink.

The Bardot "Snow Leopard" bodycon is a heavenly fit for an evening out. I mean, it literally fits like an article of heaven. And it's fitting for a swanky situation. It just fits, okay? Check out the rest of this Australian line's collection

tusk and stone

Another day, another gorgeous piece from Elliatt. This creamy ivory jacket is decorated in sequins, much like the Marchesa bag I paired it with, plastered in rubies and sparkle. The look is subtle, if only to contrast the excess of luxury detail. Everything in moderation... even opulence.
